For the longest time, I’ve been infatuated with film. It started when I looked through old pictures of my parents. When I started professionally in photography and saw how film looks in the modern day, the obsession grew leaps and bounds. Then when I saw some of my friends shooting film, it blew me away. Last fall, I finally decided to make the leap and start shooting film. Here enters Big Bertha! She’s my new baby. The prettiest thing this girl’s eyes ever did see.

And yes, I will still be shooting digital. The majority of weddings will probably be shot on digital. I’ll be what they call a hybrid shooter! Digital is great because it’s fast. You can shoot your heart out to make sure you don’t miss a special moment. You can take numerous options just in case someone blinked. Digital is also great because it handles low light (i.e. dark hotel rooms, darker ceremonies, and receptions) with ease! But film, babes. Film slows you down. It makes you be in the moment. Feel the moment. When you shoot film, you don’t have a little LCD on the back of your camera to show you what the image looks like.

I love how raw film is. How beautiful it is. The simplicity. You see, with digital you have to load the images onto your computer. Cull them (because you took a lot). Then the select images need to be edited, mainly for color to match my specific style. But film? You choose what type of film you want based on the overall color profile you want. And once you shoot your rolls, you send it off to your film lab to get it developed. When you get the images back, they’re beautiful. No retouching needed. Hence how raw they are. Here are a few from the first roll that I shot while in SoCal <3

So that’s my new and exciting news! I could go on and on about how excited and in love I am, but I’ll save it for later :) I’m currently not offering sessions in film but will in the future once I have time to build up my film knowledge! Until then, if the engagement session or wedding allows some extra time, you may see me take it out and shoot a roll or two. I am so overly excited about this new addition to JMP!
