OMG guys. If you follow me much, you know that I’m literally OBSESSED over my little puppy – Brick! While I haven’t formerly introduced you to her, she’s seriously the sweetest most adorable, most amazing dog in the world <3 I wrote this post 3 weeks ago and planned to share it on June 8th – Brick’s 3rd birthday – but as you know by now, we had our baby boy on June 8th. That’s right, both of my babies share the same birthday! I kinda love it <3
So without further adieu, let me introduce you to the little pup that has stole my heart <3
Meet Brick (aka: Bricky, aka: Brick Pants, aka: Boo Boo, aka: Puppy, aka: Boo Boo Monkey, aka: Monkey, aka: Monk). She’s our, now, 3 year old English Bulldog. Like I said, words can’t begin to describe how amazing she is! Two seconds with her and you’ll totally understand what I mean! She’s so full of love <3 We picked out this cute little thing when she was just 1 week old. This is her <3
Our breeder was based out of Oklahoma so we weren’t able to see her in person before picking her out. BUT our breeder, Jeri, was so fabulous and sent us weekly pictures of her so we could watch her grow :)
We brought her home when she was 8 weeks old in August 2012. When we picked her up at 4am, Jake and I literally about lost it when we saw that she was soooooo so much smaller than we thought she’d be. She was the tiniest 10lb nugget of fat rolls. English Bulldog puppies, if you don’t know already, are seriously the cutest little smooshy-faced puppies in the world. To. Die. For. She was nothing but rolls :) For real, if you’re having a bad day, just go on YouTube and look up “Bulldog puppies.” I guarantee it’ll bring a smile to your face!
Before we got Brick, Jeri (our breeder) would tell us about her and her personality. She always said “Brick’s a funny girl.” We didn’t really know what she meant until we got her that August. Let me tell you, this dog is crazy. As a puppy To this day, she will out of the blue get a speed burst and run laps around our place – literally unprovoked! As a pup, her favorite and most common activity was running herself hard head-first into cement walls. No seriously, she loved it. I told you she’s crazy! She’d race between two points (keep in mind this is all unprovoked) – usually her bed and our bed – and apparently her brakes would stop working because she’d use the cement wall at full speed to stop her body. Numerous times I Thought she broke the wall or her head, but it never seemed to phase her. Usually she’d just look up at us as if to say, “Whoa mom and dad, did you see that?!” For real, a funny girl.
My biggest fear when we picked an English Bulldog was that our dog wouldn’t be cuddly. I love to cuddle with dogs and hug them and use them as pillows. Yea, my fear was crushed pretty quickly with Brick. This puppy to this day will find a way to crawl onto your lap to cuddle. She’s been known to crawl onto a laptop as it to remind you “hey mom and dad, you have a really cute puppy here FYI.” With Jake, her favorite thing is cuddling cheek to cheek. It’s adorbs.
Misconceptions about Bulldogs. First, yes she’s supposed to look that solid. She’s a healthy 48lbs of pure muscle. She’s got solid legs, a skinny waste, and broad shoulders. While she’s low to the ground, she’s strong as any big dog! If she wants to go somewhere, better believe that she’s going and so are you. She’s also ridiculously smart. There’s a huge misconception that English Bulldogs are a dumb breed. WRONG! Bulldogs are incredibly STUBBORN which to most people make them appear as if they’re dumb and/or not understanding you. I can ask Brick a million times to come to me (trust me she knows what “come” means), but she often won’t do it because A) she likes where she’s at and doesn’t want to waste her energy to walk towards me or B) there’s no treat involved. Trust me, smart SMART dogs!
Another misconception is that they don’t like water. Wrong again! She loves is obsessed with the water! When we go to the beach or are near any fountain, she sprints to the water and splashes around! Being a water dog is great but having her breath smell like Lake Michigan isn’t so great.
What I think is the most adorable trait of hers is her intense love for children. Like guys, it’s so for real. She of course loves playing with children of all ages, but when she sees a child under 2 or so in the park, she’ll sprint to them and sit a few feet away patiently waiting for them to touch her. And when the child comes near, she falls over and lays on her back exposing her belly to the baby. She’s soooooo good with kids. She is so sweet and just gives kisses and cuddles to everyone she meets!
But my absolute favorite part about her? Her adorable butt wiggles. English Bulldogs don’t have tails so when they get excited, their whole butts move. Nothing makes me happier than coming home (after 8 hours or 20 minutes) and have her greet me at the door with the most intense butt wiggle. Heart melts.
I could go on and on about this pup and how much I love her and how amazing she is. Yes I’m obsessed with her. Yes you probably see her all over my Instagram. And yes she has her own Instagram hastag – #brickthebulldogpuppy. But guys, this is real love and I can’t help it! Meet her for 2 seconds and you’ll melt <3
Happy 3rd birthday, Bricky! I love you so so much. Thank you for being my best little friend, for always cuddling with me, for knowing when I’m having a bad day and walking in to let me hug you, for your butt wiggles, and for all the crazy things you do that make me smile on a daily basis. Life wouldn’t be nearly as happy without you <3
